KELVIN Lowes, 36, a corporal in the Royal Military Police, had been following the progress of ex-serviceman Christian Nock’s epic journey around Britain on foot (Observer, March 15) via Facebook and was keen to help after hearing he had made it to Hastings.

Last Wednesday morning (March 13) Kelvin drove down to the Old Town looking for Christian, who has so far raised more than £32,000 for charity Help for Heroes, picked him up and took him to his home in Belvedere Park, St Leonards, for breakfast, and to allow him to charge his phone before continuing on his way.

Kelvin said: “He was a really nice bloke and as being a soldier myself since 1993 you tend to look out for your own and do what you can. Also, the charity he is doing the walk for is very close to me as I saw a number of guys injured in Afghanistan.”
