Eastbourne cadets celebrate 150 years

EASTBOURNE cadets have kicked off the start of the force's 150th anniversary celebrations.

The cadets representing the Sea Cadets, the Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force are supporting this month's launch of Cadet150 which marks the 150th Anniversary of the cadet force movement.

Joining in the celebrations was Air Cadet Carolanne Boorman, 14, who said, "I have served with the Air Training Corps for one year and really enjoy it. I've achieved a lot and joined to do something different. In particular I enjoy the flying, shooting and annual camps."

Cadet Boorman was named Cadet of the Year in 2009 and is a student at Ratton School.

Colonel Amde Miville, Deputy Chief Executive of the South East Reserve Forces & Cadets Association, said, "We are delighted to be celebrating 150 years of this fantastic movement.

"Every single young cadet in the county will have cause to remember this year and will personally have the opportunity to take part in one or more of these exciting events."

A programme of more than 150 events taking place all over the country throughout 2010 is planned and all will reflect the spirit of fun, excitement, adventure and community service at the heart of the cadet movement.

The Eastbourne events are at Sussex Spectacular on July 24 and Airbourne in August.
