Duke plants cherry tree

THE Duke of Devonshire paid a visit to Chaseley's new semi independent living project Chaseley Bungalows.

He planted a flowering cherry tree to mark the completion of the first four bungalows, and the arrival of the development's first residents.

He was accompanied on his visit by the Duchess of Devonshire and the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, and Mrs Field.

The Duke said, "The Duchess and I were very impressed by the high standard of the work that has been done inside and outside.

"It is a wonderful use of a redundant piece of land and the up-to-date equipment available for residents will, I am sure, be hugely appreciated. This is an exciting initiative which is bound to be a great success thanks to all the hard work of the dedicated team at Chaseley."

Directors from builders Hanover Homes were also present.

The company is now working on building the second phase of the development for Chaseley.
