Drunk man climbed on top of bingo hall building
A drunk man climbed on to the top of a building after consuming too much alcohol.
John French, 21, of Hill Road, Fairlight, was spotted on the canopy of the Deluxe Bingo Club in Hastings just after 2am on June 8.
Prosecutor Jeremy King said: "Police were flagged down by a member of the public who said a man had climbed a wall and gone across several buildings before ending up on the canopy of the bingo hall.
"The fire brigade was called and firefighters climbed onto the canopy and found the defendant apparently asleep.
"They tried to arouse him as he was heavily intoxicated. A specialist fire unit was called with a lift cage to bring the defendant down because he was too drunk to climb down himself.
"His behaviour became erratic and abusive.
"The defendant was reminded by the police about the amount of time used to get him down from the canopy but he said he did not care.
"He became more argumentative and was arrested.
"In interview the following morning he showed no remorse over his actions."
French, who has no previous convictions, appeared before Hastings magistrates on Friday and pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.
Representing himself, French said: "I would like to apologise as I do not remember a thing about that night."
Magistrates gave French a nine-month conditional discharge and ordered 60 costs.
