VOLUNTEERS at Hastings RNLI lifeboat station were bubbling with joy following their latest squeaky clean fundraising day.

Every year more than 230 of the charity’s lifeboat stations co-ordinate in one giant fundraising effort for its annual SOS Day appeal. Hastings lifeboat crew played their part this year with a massive Soap and Suds car wash.

More than 60 cars received the special lifeboat spit and polish treatment, raising more than £630.

Steve Warne, Hastings RNLI lifeboat’s coxwain, said: “We were all really pleased with the way the day went. Support was excellent and we are all very grateful for the generosity of the public’s donations. We’d also like to say a big thank you to CAT Components in the Old Town who supplied the car shampoo and sponges free of charge.”

This year Hastings RNLI has its own particular fundraising challenge. New jackets have been developed and the crew at Hastings have taken up the challenge of fundraising the money needed for these new lifejackets at their station.

Peter Adams, lifeboat operations manager at Hastings, said: “We need to raise £4,000 to provide all our volunteer crew with that one bit of essential new kit – a lifejacket. We will soon be formally launching an appeal to fundraise for our target, but in the meantime, anyone who would like to help us can do so by making a donation.”
