Car hit by train at Winchelsea station crossing
Two car passengers were injured after a train struck their vehicle at Winchelsea level crossing.
The accident happened just after 3pm yesterday (Thursday).
A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: "We received a report at 3.05pm on Thursday of a train striking a silver Ford Fiesta car at Winchelsea level crossing.
"Two passengers, a man and a woman both in their 50s, were in the car when the train clipped the front of the vehicle but neither suffered any serious injuries.
"The train involved was the 14.30 Ashford to Brighton service.
"BTP, Sussex Police and Kent ambulance service attended the incident and BTP enquiries are currently ongoing.
"The railway was handed back to Network Rail just before 4pm."
A spokesman for Southern, which runs trains between Rye, Ashford, Hastings and Brighton, said: "A female driver was trapped in the car for about an hour before emergency services managed to cut her free.
"She only received some minor injuries. There were 27 passengers on the train who we provided with a bus for their onward journey.
"Brighton to Ashford services were started and terminated at Hastings, with a shuttle bus being provided between Hastings and Rye.
"The train was eventually moved at 5.35pm and the line re-opened at 6.45pm. As always there will be a full investigation into this incident."
