Business mentors are called upon

A CHARITY is calling on businessmen and women in 1066 Country to mentor teenagers in schools on how to set up and run their own real businesses for a year.

Young Enterprise says many schools across Hastings and Rother have already signed up to the charity’s Company Programme, which will see groups of 15- to 19-year-olds set up their own firms.

Wendy Gorham, East Sussex manager for Young Enterprise, said: “Mentoring young people is incredibly rewarding for both parties. Our mentors say it makes them better employees in the workplace, as working with young people sharpens their skills, for example in management, delegation, teamwork and motivation.

“It’s a great way for companies to get a handle on what’s relevant in the all-important youth market and it’s ideal for firms wanting to increase the amount of work they do in the community.”

The Company Programme, which culminates with a national and European final to find the UK’s best student company, aims to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Volunteer business mentors receive support from Young Enterprise staff throughout the year and are required to contribute just one hour a week during term time.

Entrepreneurs interested should ring Mark Weeks-Pearson on 01424 720222.
