A STATE-of-the-art, £2.5m eco-friendly conference centre is thriving almost six months after opening.
The Sussex Exchange opened in August at the Enviro 21 business park off Queensway in St Leonards.
It has provided nine new jobs and first class, modern facilities for the both the local business community and visiting residents.
The eye-catching building was officially opened in November by Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Local Government.
The facility boasts a biomass boiler system using wood chippings or pellets was installed and a sewarage system that uses rainwater collected from its roof.
The boiler was so sensitive it shut itself down on Tuesday morning after its sensors detected the foreign gas leak which came across the channel from France.
As the system is operated by a naked flame burning wood it is programming to shut down at the slightest hint of gas.
Local residents have been visiting the popular restaurant which boasts stunning views across the rolling 1066 countryside.
The venture has been led by Sea Change Sussex, a not-for-profit economic development agency for Sussex.
Tariq Kwarja, spokesman for Sea Change Sussex, said: “The restaurantis proving particularly popular at lunchtimes and during December it was full or almost full on many days. We are already taking bookings for 2014.”
