Brave Harry is youngest resident of month award winner

THE RESIDENT of the Month Award for February has been won by the youngest ever recipient.

Six-year-old Harry Gutsell was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in June 2007, but has shown himself to be one of the bravest and most courageous little boys in Eastbourne.

Despite regular trips to hospital to receive treatment, including chemotherapy, Harry is as active as ever, attending school and playing as much football as possible with his friends, older brother Charlie and his team mates at Eastbourne Borough.

Harry recently received a Little Star Award from Cancer Research UK in acknowledgement of the unique challenges faced by youngsters who encounter cancer.

The Resident of the Month Award is sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald and this week, Yiotis Diomedou, a director at Advanta, met up with Harry to present him with a special certificate.

Yiotis said, "Harry has clearly endured more in his six years than most people will in a lifetime.

"However, you'd never know it from meeting him! He is bright, happy and full of energy and a real credit to his parents.

"It was great meeting him and I'm looking forward to seeing his name on the Herald sports pages for scoring lots of goals for Eastbourne Borough."

Harry is now looking forward to a complimentary meal at Ridgways restaurant in Meads with his family.
