Blood donors honoured at awards ceremony

TWO dedicated blood donors were honoured at a recent awards ceremony.
William Lewis, of Ashford Way, and Dee Mutter, of Marina, St Leonards, were among 81 donors from across Sussex and Kent to be praised by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) at the event, held at Ashford International Hotel.
They each received a crystal decanter in recognition of making 100 blood donations.
The ceremony honoured long-serving blood donors who had donated blood on at least 75 occasions, with 22 of the lifesavers commended for reaching the 100 donation milestone. Between them, the donors have given more than 6,600 units of blood, the equivalent of almost 5,000 pints.
John Canning, lead donor relations manager at NHSBT, said: “The commitment that these blood donors have shown to donating blood throughout their lives is remarkable.

“They are shining examples to others thinking of donating for the first time or to those who haven’t donated in a while.
“We are delighted to honour them in this way and are grateful for every single donation they have given.”
Anyone wanting to donate for the first time should be aged between 17 and 65, weigh at least 50kg (seven stone 12lbs) and in general good health. If anyone has donated before, they can start again up to their 70th birthday. There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years.
