Band’s exciting year ahead

Dorey the Wise

Dorey the Wise

A YOUNG band that has grown in popularity since success in a music competition, has an exciting year ahead.

Dorey the Wise, a four-piece from Hastings and Battle is to release its debut EP on March 1, on the back of success last year in Surface Festival, an international showcase competition for original music.

The band came second place out of 10,000 entrants in last year’s competition, with its brand of indie pop.

The four won prizes including a four-day tour and band equipment.

Dorey the Wise has continued to play live locally, and in December band members went into the studio to record a selection of their songs.

Last month their single Backbone got its first radio play on BBC Introducing, and 6 Music’s Tom Robinson has also shown an interest in their tunes.

The four-track EP is being launched at the Brass Monkey in Hastings on March 1, a free event at which the band is being supported by Jungle Doctors and local band Club Capulet.

Lead singer Aidan Tigwell is counting the days until the event, and said: “We’re all really excited about the launch.

“We’ve come a long way since we got together for Beatles Day at the White Rock in 2011 and this is a huge milestone for us.

“And we’re really looking forward to a massive summer this year.”

Dorey the Wise was formed in 2010 by Aidan Tigwell (vocals) and Chris Georghiou (vocals and guitar), who were joined in 2011 by Mason Holmes on bass and Elliot Lampitt on drums, turning what was an acoustic duo into a fully fledged band.

Following the EP launch they are going on to play over the next few weeks in London and Tunbridge Wells, as well as staying true to their roots with a performance at Hastings Beer and Music Festival 2013.
