A26 closed for emergency repairs after fatal crash

Part of the A26 will remain closed today (Feb 14) after a fatal crash.

Police confirmed this morning (February 14) that the Highways Agency had decided on the A26 closure to make repairs at the scene near the Crow and Gate pub about two miles from Crowborough.

The A26 was shut immediately after the crash on Saturday (Feb 13), between Chillies Lane and Rocks Lane, and drivers are being diverted through High Hurstwood.

Meanwhile they renewed Saturday's appeal for a potential witness to come forward.

A driver died and two people in another vehicle were believed to be badly injured in what police describe as a "head-on" crash about 10am on Saturday.

East Sussex fire crews helped free the injured, who were taken to hospital.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We are keen to speak to the driver of a Black VW Golf as we believe the driver may have witnessed the accident."

Anyone with information should call the police non-emergency number 0845 60 70 999.

No further details of the accident are likely to be released until tomorrow.

Police are investigating the accident under the name Operation Buckmore.
