£100,000 of cannabis plants uncovered

THREE people were arrested by police in a drugs raid this morning (Wednesday) which uncovered £100,000 worth of cannabis plants.

A warrant to search the property in Silchester Road, St Leonards, was obtained from court following complaints by residents and business owners of a strong smell of cannabis coming from there.

Cannabis plants worth £100,000 were found drying across two rooms inside.

PC Eoin Freeman, of Hastings Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “I was overwhelmed by the number of people from the local area approaching local officers with their concerns about the pungent smell of cannabis. I used my initiative to find the origin of the smell and was pleased to say I got it right! I thank all the residents and businesses as now we have been able to remove these drugs from the streets of our town.”

Detective Inspector Rob Morland from East Sussex CID said: “This was a significant find and was down to the local community being observant and informing officers of their concerns.

“The supply of drugs has a huge impact on local communities and today’s find and arrests sends out a strong message that Sussex Police will act on every peice of information concerning drugs.”

A 41-year-old man from St Leonards and a 28-year-old man from Leamington Spa were arrested on suspicion of production of a Class B drugs and possession with intent to supply.

A 29-year-old woman from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of production of a Class B drug. All three remain in custody for questioning.
