Three local charities had a funding boost after they each received cheques to the value of £1,000 donated by Bexhill Lions Club.

The money, raised from the annual Bexhill Lions Club Triathlon held earlier this year, was presented to St Michael’s Hospice, The Sara Lee Trust, and Dragonflies by race director, David Burstow, following a special viewing of a video of this year’s Triathlon/Duathlon video at the Cooden Beach Hotel.

Accepting the cheques on behalf of the charities were Stephanie Edmonds, operations director at Dragonflies (which supports children and young people aged five to 18 years who are in the process of being bereaved or who are bereaved), Dr Paul Wright, a trustee at St Michael’s Hospice and Veronica Goddard, a trustee of The Sara Lee Trust, which provides complementary therapies, counselling and creative therapies to people in Hastings and Rother living through cancer and other life-threatening illnesses; with support for their families and carers.

Lion David said: “In accepting the cheques, charity representatives expressed their thanks and appreciation for the donations and said they are very much reliant on fundraising and donations and that the Bexhill Lions Club support will make a real difference to their work.”

He added: “Bexhill Lions retained 25 per cent of the proceeds of the Triathlon to pass on to various local groups who support the event and help out on the day. These include the Scouts and the Guides.”

The 2015 Bexhill Lions Club Triathlon/Duathlon, which is open to all, will be held on Sunday, September 27.
