A SCHOOLGIRL who has raised hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of her mum was rewarded with a thrilling helicopter ride.

Lily Perkins, 11, enjoyed the ride, courtesy of St Michael’s Hospice. The rides were donated to the St Leonards-based charity by local bus company Stagecoach. Lily, of Smith Close, Ninfield, lost her mother, who was a patient at the hospice, when she just eight years old. She has since raised more than £550 for the charity, based in Upper Maze Hill, in memory of her mum.

Marcia Dart, challenge event fundraiser for St Michael’s Hospice, said: “Lily is so brave and she sets a great example to young people of her age. She has raised a fantastic amount of money for the hospice and is always happy to talk about the special memories she holds of her mum and of St Michael’s Hospice. This is our way of saying a big thank you to Lily and her family.” Paul Southgate, managing director of Stagecoach in East Sussex, said: “We donated the helicopter rides to St Michael’s Hospice because of the excellent work it does. We were extremely moved when we heard about Lily and don’t think the trip could have gone to a more deserving girl.” Lily took to the sky with her dad, Steve, at Eastbourne’s Airbourne airshow.
