A WARNING has been issued after lifebelts were thrown into Wishing Tree Reservoir when it was iced over during freezing temperatures last week.
Sam Carter, honorary secretary of Hastings Bexhill and District Freshwater Angling Association, said: “Unfortunately while Wishing Tree reservoir was frozen over, the lifebelts were repeatedly thrown onto the ice without any need. This means that in the event of an emergency these are not available and therefore could have devastating consequences.
“The lifebelts are there to be used in emergencies and if they are available at such a time could save a life. Throwing a lifebelt into the water without there being an emergency is a criminal offence and the police have been notified of the situation. “
The association urges anyone who sees susupicious activity at the reservoir to contact police on 101.
