MORE than 100 local Liberal Democrats gathered to hear a speech from the MP of nearby Eastbourne.
Stephen Lloyd was guest of honour at the party’s annual dinner last Friday, held this year at Azur in Marina, St Leonards.
He thanked local members for the support they had given him during his successful election campaign and defended the Lib Dem hierarchy’s decision to join forces with David Cameron’s Conservatives in the Coalition.
Revd Paul Hunt, chairman of the local party for 2011, was delighted the MP could fit the occasion into his busy schedule.
He said: “I am enormously grateful to Stephen for coming to speak, and for giving us a greater insight into how Liberal Democrats are working day in day out to try to make Coalition policy as fair as possible.”
And Nick Perry, the party’s parliamentary spokesman for Hastings and Rye, said: “This was a terrific event, and the Azur staff were great.
“Locally and nationally Liberal Democrats are in good heart.”
