Smart academy pupils look the part

WHAT a delight it was to see the well-dressed young people of Hastings in their new uniforms for the first time last week.

The children of the two academies were in town in their beautiful new blazers – purple for the St Leonards Academy and turquoise for the Hastings Academy.

Good schools are not made from uniforms. But the pride that the young people appeared to be taking in their immaculate uniforms reinforced the point of raising standards through every lever possible.

We are getting new buildings in the academies, which I welcome. But first come the children in their new clothes – they looked fantastic.

I hope the academies continue to build on the significant educational progress that the three schools that they are amalgamated from, have already achieved.
