Shuttle bus would cut congestion

IT is very good news that, having at last realised that Hastings/St Leonards is the only English resort town not operating a public transport system along its entire seafront, the council is now actually thinking about providing one.

An electric mini-tram service sounds great, but there is a quicker and much cheaper solution.

We suggest a shuttle bus service between Hastings Old Town and Glyne Gap, where there is ample space to create a terminus.

To encourage people to leave their cars at home and take the bus instead, this service should be free to local residents of all ages.

This would of course necessitate a substantial grant from East Sussex County Council, but, having long been concerned to reduce congestion on the A259, they would presumably be all in favour of such a scheme.

If plans to spend £40 million on the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road were to be scrapped, there would be plenty of cash to spare for a development

that (unlike the wretched road) would benefit the entire community.
