Rich must help and respect poor

Of course the Chancellor Osborne will not listen, he never does. The Osborne so-called austerity plan has not worked.

When cuts cause misery to vulnerable people then there is something badly wrong.

The main role of government is to provide security to its people and this government has failed to do that at the most basic level, be it food, floods, housing or adult social care.

The so-called plan is immoral and lacks basic compassion.

The plan smacks of the ‘idolatry of money and the dictatorship of an impersonal economy lacking a truly human purpose’ referred to by Pope Francis.

What is surprising is that Chancellor Osborne accepts that the council may raise funds by taxing its constituents.

That means, of course, that the poorer councils who will most be affected by the cuts are the very councils that will raise insufficient funds from the additional tax.

Oddly, Chancellor Osborne who believes in free market forces won’t let the councils raise the tax to a level necessary, but instead caps the rise.

If raising taxes is an acceptable solution for the councils’ problems that Osborne has caused, then surely Chancellor Osborne should raise general taxation.

That, of course, would be a fairer solution.

As Pope Francis said ‘the rich must help, respect and promote the poor’.

Is it only rigid unethical ideology that prevents Osborne following through on his own logic?

So what can people in East Sussex do? Very little.

Osborne will not listen. If you write to your MP he will do little to criticise Osborne if he is concerned about his career as a conservative MP.

Let us hope I am wrong.

I would welcome a positive ethical response.

Occasionally people are allowed to exercise their democratic right in elections.

I hope they will think carefully next time they vote.
