Regeneration game

RICHARD Price’s letter in the Observer (December 21) rings a lot of bells. I agree with him about the council’s abuse of the word regeneration.

The Hastings Local Plan is full of it, often as a substitute for the word speculation.

I also agree with the letter from Ivan Burge on the facing page, about Combe Valley Industrial Park and Housing Estate and it being a catastrophe.

Another word hijacked is environment. The site at Queensway, where a conference centre and industrial spaces are unused, is called Enviro21, as if the countryside has been enhanced by laying down concrete. It’s been Enviro’d. Doubtless we’ll see more Enviroment as the trees come down.
