Last straw for bus service

I’ve put up with an appalling bus service for many years but yesterday this once-an-hour bus service was 50 minutes late.

This is not unusual on the 28 bus route, it is rarely on time.

Because the bus was so late yesterday I wasn’t able to get a lift to my art class.

This is an educational/social activity, very necessary for my welfare.

I am an older person with a long-term chronic health condition.

For those of us unlucky enough to have to depend on this one bus it makes it difficult to plan appointments at the hospital, doctors, mothers having to get children to school, students or just planning our days.

This isn’t good enough.

The 28 bus provides the only access to town for those who live on West Hill.

It is the only way to get to the hospital for those on the West Hill and in Ore Village.

Whilst I am at it, what about the much flaunted Hastings night-time economy? This isn’t available to us on the West Hill.

The last bus up the hill is at 6pm and down at 6.50pm.

This is a low waged town with many on benefits.

People need to get out and socialise to be well and happy.

This means our population will be healthier with less cost to the NHS and other services.

I am very grateful for the senior bus pass, but for those who are younger the cost of the fares is too high.

What is the bus service for?

Is it just to provide profit to its shareholders or is it to provide an economic and environmental benefit to the citizens of this town and beyond?

At the bus stop yesterday a few of us exchanged numbers and we are hoping to get up a petition and lobby for a better bus service for the No 28.

Maybe your bus service is bad too, get talking to your fellow travellers and get active.
