An attraction to be proud of

Having visited the newly re-opened Hastings Pier I believe that far from being disappointed, as SA Young wrote (letters April 29), visitors will be inspired.

The wide open space is a triumph and the use of the old planking to clad the central building is a clever ‘tip-your-hat’ to past glories.

Who came up with the idea of festooning the front of the pier with 6,000-plus hand-decorated – by local children – pennants?

Absolute genius and a real connection to the local community. Well done!

This a seaside pier that we should be very proud of, that is fit for the 21st century and that will truly be an inspiration to those that open their minds to all its possibilities.
