Launch of Liane Carroll’s new album at
historic venue promises to be spectacular

Award-winning jazz musician Liane Carroll will be launching her new album “Ballads” accompanied by her quartet and a 40-strong orchestra, at St Mary-in-the-Castle, Hastings on April 13.

Liane is especially pleased that the string section will made up of musicians from the East Sussex Youth Orchestra.

She said: “There are amazing musicians coming through locally.

“I’m really looking forward to doing something really big in St Mary-in-the-Castle, because I love the venue.”

Ballads has already received rave reviews; four stars from Jazzwise and five stars from Jazz Journal.

Liane said: “I used to subscribe to Jazz Journal from when I was 11, so it is a bit of a dream come true.”

She said that this album was different to anything she had done before.

“I was a bit scared because I thought I would be a bit exposed.

“It follows a theme of love; songs of unrequited love, and happy love.”

This is Liane’s second album with twice Grammy nominated Hastings -based music producer James McMillan, and a host of people have been involved from local musicians to Hollywood arranger Chris Walden, who wrote the arrangements for the recent Oscar ceremony. The artwork is designed by Hastings’ Lester Magoogan.

Despite having worked with many big names, Liane is firmly rooted in Hastings. “This is a very special place to come home to,” she said.
