A local man is to take on the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for charity.
Justin Rollings, who is Head of Marketing and Communications at Sussex Coast College Hastings and lives in Bexhill, will be taking on the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland, in under 24 hours on Saturday June 25, to raise money for mental health charity, Mind.
One in four people experience a mental health problem each year, and Mind works to give people support and advice.
To help raise money for his challenge, Justin organised a cake sale at the college, selling a range of different cakes, as well as auctioning off two large fruit cakes.
Catering students and members of staff, along with friends and family, helped to bake cakes for the stall, one of which was in the shape of a giant tree stump, helping to raise a total of £210.
Justin spent last summer volunteering for the charity in Bexhill, meeting many people who had benefitted from the support that they give.
Justin said: “I really wanted to try and find a way to help raise further awareness of this important charity and this seemed the best way. We will probably all experience some kind of mental health problem in our lives and I feel that it’s really important to lift the lid on this often hidden illness”.
Justin will climb Ben Nevis on Saturday morning, moving on to Scafell Pike over-night, before finishing with Snowdon on Sunday morning. The trek covers a distance of 27 miles and a 3,000 meter climb. You can donate to Justin’s challenge here: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/justinrollings.
