The event invited hundreds of students from local schools, and local people, along to see what local businesses and the college had to offer.

Amber Rudd, Home Secretary and Hastings MP, gave a welcoming speech to the 38 businesses who attended, before visiting each of them to greet them and have pictures taken.

Local employers including Hastings Direct, Saga, Marshall Tufflex and the Azur attended with stalls in the atrium. Santander and Marks & Spencer’s joined together to create a Careers Hub to giving visitors help and advice about finding work and taking them through mock interviews.

The college offered students advice about their next steps after secondary school and let them know about the types of courses available.

The Station Plaza Gym set up a rowing challenge at the back of the atrium and on the first floor the College’s Hair and Beauty students teamed up with Boots to demonstrate simple but effective interview hair and make-up tips and ideas.

Ashley Chapman, from the college said: “The jobs fair is an excellent way for job seekers to find local vacancies and make contact with businesses and employers, and for students to gain an insight into working life and future careers.”

Amber Rudd commented: “Every time I hold this event I am impressed with the range of opportunities in our local area. Already I have heard of people being offered jobs or interviews.”
