A WOMAN is taking on the challenge of the Hastings Half Marathon to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice, in recognition of the care staff gave to her dad.
Izzie McLaughlin Hill, 23, now lives in Surrey but grew up in Hastings Old Town.
Her dad George Hill, formerly of Croft Road, died of prostate cancer in 2006, aged 55, after spending some time at St Michael’s Hospice, in St Leonards.
Having seen the quality of care that he received there, Izzie is keen to be able to give something back.
She said: “This was my way of showing my appreciation and thanks.
“It is a very demanding job that they do, and a 24-hour job sometimes.”
Izzie, who works as a sales executive in London, still has strong ties to Hastings, and has taken part in the five kilometre Race for Life for the last five years.
She wanted a different challenge, and settled on the 13 mile Hastings Half Marathon partly because her dad had run this same race around nine years ago.
Her target is £150, but Izzie hopes to raise much more.
