AN INTREPID young man will take on the last in a year-long series of extreme challenges to raise thousands of pounds money for a leading UK cancer charity tomorrow (Saturday).
Louis Bedwell, of Vale Road, will be taking part in the London to Brighton Challenge, travelling 100k by foot, from capital to coast, in a bid to raise more funds for Cancer Research UK.
The 20-year-old student will set off at 9am from London tomorrow and the challenge will mark the end of The One Expedition, a series of challenges Louis set himself after his mother was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Louis said: “I’m really excited to take on the next challenge. It’ll be a tough one but I’ve completed the route before and I’m pretty confident. “I’ll be sad for The One Expedition to come an end but the past year has been incredible. My family and I have been blown away with the support from the general public. So many exciting things have come from the project. I’m really looking forward to the next few months.”
In the past year, the young student has completed 250 miles of solo treks, broken the world record for 24 hours spent on a cross trainer and he recently completed laps of the Hastings Half Marathon route for 30 hours while pulling a weighted cart. And, so far Louis has raised a whopping £8,000 and is hoping to garner even more funds over the next few weeks.
Chloe L Williams, Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager for the region, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Louis has taken on his series of challenges in the past year. He has been a pleasure to work with and the positivity he has spread to local schools has been incredible. Together we have been spreading awareness about cancer, encouraging people to discuss issues surrounding the disease.”
