Hundreds of children enjoyed free games and activities at Play Days in Alexandra Park to celebrate the start of their summer holidays.

The events, hosted by Hastings Borough Council’s Play Hastings Team saw families flocking to the park, despite the poor weather, to join in the fun on July 27, and Wednesday, August 3

Lead member for leisure Dawn Poole: “It was great to see so many families in the park enjoying the free play and sports and games on offer.

“Activities included arts and crafts, sumo suits, pirate play, water play and water slide, tree climbing, woodwork, dressing up, marble runs, mud pies and much, much more.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Hastings Round Table for funding the bungee run, Colossal Events for the sumo suits and large garden games and the Inside Out Theatre Company for providing pirate play.

“Thank you also to Stamco for donating wood, Hastings Fire and Rescue Service for lending us the inflatable goal, South East Stars for providing the tumble track and Hastings Kick Boxing Academy and Sedlescombe Golf Club for providing free workshops.

“Our thanks must also go to all those that help to make our Play Days events so successful.

“These groups include In2play, Active Hastings and Street Games, Hastings and St Leonards Children’s Centres, Horizons CIC, Athelstan Nursery, the Youth Council, the council’s ranger service, Hastings Army Cadets all stall holders and activity providers and of course all the young volunteers.”

This year over 38 young volunteers aged between 13 and 17 donated their free time to attend play training and then support the play activities at the event.

The volunteers were recruited through town wide street play sessions supported by Orbit South, AmicusHorizon and North East Hastings Big Local.
