ST LEONARDS-based charity Michael’s Hospice had good reason to celebrate at the end of the Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water this weekend, as not only did one of its teams win first place with the fastest race but also raised more than £6,000.
The Dragon Boat Race Festival is the largest of its kind in Europe with 85 teams competing. This year around 70 charities were represented and more than £150,000 was raised overall.
St Michael’s Hospice entered six teams made up of staff and friends of the hospice and also staff from AmicusHorizon, Family Mosaic, Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club and Hastings Round Table. Many teams dressed up for event and the staff from the hospice went for a Disney theme.
