Hob Nob Group

At our June meeting we welcomed our Speaker Mr. Martin West who gave a very informative illustrated talk on the ‘Hastings Street Pastors’.

Martin is the Co-ordinator, and the Street Pastors have been patrolling the town centre on Friday and Saturday evenings from 10 p,m, to 3.30 a.m. since February 5th 2010 in a team of 4/5 trained volunteers drawn from local churches. They are supported by a prayer team (Prayer Pastors) back at base in Wellington Square Baptist Church. There are now 68 trained volunteers.

Their ethos is one of caring, listening and helping, Items are freely given, including bottled water, soup, hot drinks, food, lollipops, blankets and flip flops. Hastings Police have expressed their deep gratitude for the great help the Street Pastors do.

Street Pastors was pioneered in Brixton in 2003 and has grown to such an extent that there are now over 270 projects around the U.K. involving over 10,000 trained Street Pastors.

Vote of thanks was given to Martin by our Chairman.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday July 15 when we will have Bingo with prizes followed by our strawberry tea.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Friends Meeting

House, South Terrace, Hastings. All enquiries ring 01424 316940.
