At our February meeting we welcomed our speaker Anne Scott. Anne’s illustrated talk was Exploring History in Hastings Cemetery.
Hastings Cemetery has 66 acres laid out by Henry Carpenter. Henry Carpenter is buried at the cemetery. We saw many pictures of wonderful angels and crosses memorials, some with masonic signs on them, different designs of bird baths and obelisks in red granite, and a large fisherman’s plot where six fishermen are buried. They lost their lives in 1886.
In 1955 the crematorium arrived at the cemetery. Vote of thanks was given by our chairman.
After tea we had our AGM.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 2pm until 4pm at the Friends Meeting House, South Terrace. All enquiries ring 01424 717709.
