ANGRY staff staged a sit-in on Thursday, January 6, at a St Leonards hotel over a dispute with owners.

Robert Mollard, general manager of the High Beech Hotel, said MB Hotels Ltd, which owns the hotel, had reneged on a promise to give him the lease.

Police were called to the hotel in Washington Avenue yesterday morning.

Mr Mollard, who became general managerlast September, said Dr Wyramuttoo Maheswaran, director of MB Hotels, had issued papers to take civil action against the manager and his five staff and get them kicked out.

He said: “We have turned the hotel around and booked 37 weddings for this year but are worried customers are going to be let down. We are supposed to be having the lease from last October after brokering a deal with Dr Maheswaran but it has not happened.”

David Hunter, Dr Maheswaran’s associate and representative, declined to comment about yesterday’s sit-in.
