NHS trust to appoint new board members

NEW board members are being called upon to step forward and help shape local NHS services.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the Conquest and Eastbourne DGH, is recruiting three new non-executive directors. It is seeking people with senior level expertise in the private, public or voluntary sectors.

Stuart Welling, trust chairman, said: “As chairman, I am looking to bring together a board that will take the trust further forward as a patient-focused organisation delivering the best quality care for people of East Sussex.

“There has possibly never been a time in the NHS when we need to take stock and plan our future more than right now.

“Funding in the years ahead will not match the increase in demand for our services with an ever aging population while the cost of treatment, equipment, drug therapies and utilities will continue to rise.”

He added: “I welcome applications from anyone who would like to help us meet these challenges. In particular I would welcome applications from women, people from the black and minority ethnic communities, and people with a disability along with applicants who live in the Eastbourne and Hastings area as they are currently under-represented on the board.”

Bosses are particularly looking for financial experience with a recognised financial qualification, clinical and patient safety experience gained from a clinical healthcare background, and experience in the voluntary or community services sectors.

The time commitment is a minimum of two-and-half days each month but more typically around three to four days each month and remuneration is £6,096 per annum.

The closing date for applications is February 16. For more information visit www.appointments.org.uk. The trust will also be hosting an information session for prospective candidates on the evening of February 6. To register an interest contact Monica Green, director of human resources, on 01323 413879. For an informal discussion contact the chairman’s PA, Alison Prout, on 01323 381342.
