A HEALTH minister visited the Conquest Hospital last Thursday (June 6) and met with staff and patients on the maternity unit and children’s ward.

Dr Daniel Poulter MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health, was accompanied by Hastings MP Amber Rudd, met staff and also had a discussion session with school nurses and health visitors.

He was guided around the hospital by Alice Webster, director of nursing.

Dr Poulter said: “It was great to witness the positive impact the staff’s hard work and dedication has on new mothers and families. I was also pleased to hear about the tremendous work that has gone on locally to support the training of more health visitors who help to give each and every child in Hastings and Rother the very best start in life.”

Stuart Welling, hospital trust chairman, said: “We were very pleased that the minister was able to visit the Conquest. He heard first-hand how women giving birth in the maternity unit have been impressed by the facilities and the positive birthing experience offered by our staff.”
