A FREEZE on council tax and car parking charges are key elements of this year’s draft budget from Hastings Borough Council.
Public consultation on the budget and corporate plan for the next financial year, began last week, and residents, community groups and businesses are invited to give their views on spending priorities.
The council is facing a further cuts in Government funding for the coming year.
Council leader Jeremy Birch said: “We are facing a difficult few years and balancing our books does mean we have to prioritise services. Last year’s budget was especially tough with 40 jobs lost, 2013/14 will be even tougher.
“By then we will have lost half the funding the Government was giving us in 2010. We will be facing a cliff edge and have been building up our financial reserves to break our fall.”
Call into the town hall on Monday, January 30, or Wednesday, February 1, between 10am and noon to discuss budget issues with Cllr Birch and deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council, Cllr Jay Kramer.
The proposals can be found online at www.hastings.gov.uk.
