AN AMDRAM fan from Hastings has landed her dream job fronting a new TV show about the theatre.

Former West St Leonards and Helenswood girl Joanna Flay has been chosen to present Stagetalk and cannot wait to get stuck in to interviewing some stars of the stage.

The show, which will be broadcast monthly on Sky channel 201 or 403 on Freesat, aims to offer handy hints and tips to amateur dramatics groups across the UK - with regular features on make-up, wardrobes and the more technical work backstage.

And, with a history in local amdram, it is something Mrs Flay is looking forward to.

Speaking to the Observer the former Arrow FM presenter said: “I was thrilled to be asked to front the show as I’ve always had a passion for local theatre.

“Doing shows at Helenswood, The Stables and with The Hastleons has been such an inspiration for me and I know I’m not alone in having used the experience gained from amdram to build a career in the media.

“I really enjoyed taking part in so many shows and it will be interesting to be on the other end of it on Showcase. Hopefully it will be just as much fun.”

Mrs Flay, 29, will also be interviewing cast and crew members currently working in London’s West End and is sure that the insider knowledge can help local groups, like The Hastleons, improve their already impressive performances.

“We’re hoping the expert advice and behind the scenes interviews will really help amateur groups to thrive,” Mrs Flay said. “This sort of help is especially important now when show budgets are particularly tight.”

Her work will also appear on the website www.stagetalk.tv and she wants to hear from as many budding actors and performing groups as possible with a view to featuring them in the future.

“I know there is so much going on in places like Hastings and we are really keen to get groups on the show - so send us your rehearsal pictures and videos via the website.”

To see Mrs Flay in action, look out for the show which airs on Sunday, June 5 from 5pm.
