Hastings and St Leonards Veterans Association

AT Wednesday's monthly meeting of the Association, members received and approved the minutes of the January meeting.

A letter from the chairman, Peter White, was read out to those present.

Peter White has reluctantly resigned as chairman of the Association, due to ill-health. The role of acting chairman was offered to the vice-chairman, Mr Brian Aucutt, who declined the role.

The members were asked to nominate a new interim chairman and George Lane, ex-Gordon Highlanders, was unanimously elected to the post. His vice-chairman will be Malcom Sharp of the Royal Sussex Regiment.

Max Scard, ex-RAF, was given a warm welcome to his first meeting as a new member. Members were asked if they would like a coach trip and offered a choice of three destinations. The popular choice was RAF Duxford.

Full costs will be announced at the next meeting on the March 4. The secretary, Richard Vallery-Peters reported on the recent application to the Ministry of Defence for funding, for the Veterans Day parade in June. It is hoped that the application will be successful.

A disco and buffet for members and guests is also being looked at as part of the forthcoming Veterans Week events along with a membership recruitment day.

Any enquiries for the Association can be made to the secretary, Richard Vallery-Peters by telephone on 781036.
