TIME passes quickly for us writers. Before we knew it, it was Monday, January 20, time to submit our entries for the first competition of 2014.
For a change, we had to write a 1,500-word short story from a given first paragraph.
Some people had clearly struggled with this, but we still had an excellent field of entries. Members read extracts from their work on the night - as the given paragraph was a little cataclysmic, many of the entries dealt with very dramatic events - the Twin Towers, German reunification, and even the Nativity. Others were less serious, including a tantalising excerpt from a story about escaped maggots.
