A doctors' surgery in town has been branded a '˜shambles' by patients.

Victoria Bartholomew said last Tuesday (May 23) that ‘no doctors were turning up’ at Shankill Surgery in Fairlight Road.

She said: “I had an appointment for my son at 9.10am because he had tonsillitis.

“I was told the doctor wasn’t turning up and neither was the locum GP. It was a disaster at the surgery as no one seemed to know what was going on.

“There were six patients at the surgery when I was there and two walked out.

“The surgery has gone downhill in the last few months. Patients can’t get to see anyone. The surgery won’t book appointments in advance.”

A spokeswoman for Hastings and Rother Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “We are sorry to hear that a patient at Shankhill Surgery, which is a branch of the Cornwallis Plaza Practice, is unhappy with the service they have been receiving.

“The practice has been experiencing some difficulties recently and the CCG is providing a full package of support, with the assistance of local GPs, to help practice staff make improvements so that local people can access good quality GP services.

“We hope that local people are now beginning to see improvements following the measures we have put in place.”
