A Sport Relief grant of nearly £1,000 was awarded to help Sea Cadets in Hastings buy new equipment today (Tuesday, May 3).
The Hastings and St Leonards Sea Cadets were given £999.98 to buy laptops with the latest software to enable volunteer instructors to input and export data to assist in the training of cadets.
Comic Relief UK programme manager Cathy Togher said: “The successful projects announced today in the local area have received a small grant as part of this year’s Sport Relief Community Cash initiative. Some of the most meaningful changes to people’s lives are made at the grassroots of local communities.
“All over the UK, local people are working hard to make a difference on their own doorsteps for people living tough lives and these grants show how a small amount of money can make a big difference.”
Sussex Community Foundation gave more than £17,600 on behalf of Sport Relief to 19 community groups and charities across Sussex.
The charity’s Kevin Richmond said: “We have funded some truly fantastic work in the local area via Comic Relief’s Community Cash initiative and we are delighted to announce these successful groups who have received funding from the recent Sport Relief campaign.
“Thanks to the hard work of these groups, the money raised through Sport Relief can now get right to the heart of the local community and make a real difference where it is most needed.”
