ORGANISERS of an annual women-only fundraiser have been unable to attract enough entrants this year.
Cancer Research UK, which runs Race for Life, was hoping to fill 3,000 spaces but has only managed to get 2,200 participants.
The event takes place in Alexandra Park on Sunday, July 17.
Tesco also organises the race and this year 92 staff from the store in Hollington are taking part.
Last year 2,484 women took part in Race for Life in the town and raised £120,000.
Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event series where all the money raised goes to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. Women of all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities join together to walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.
Hayley Reynolds, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event manager in Hastings, said: “The atmosphere is amazing, with local women from all walks of life coming together to make a positive difference to people affected by cancer.
“They motivate and inspire each other to complete the course with many simply walking round, chatting and having fun.
“One in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.
“But the good news is that more people are beating it than ever before. Cancer Research UK’s work is at the heart of that progress. By helping to raise money through Race for Life, our supporters are turning hope into reality.”
