POLICE are holding five burglary road shows at different locations across town starting today (Friday).
Local Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be advising the public on shed, garage and outbuilding security, concentrating on areas where this type of crime has recently been reported.
Officers will also be knocking on residents’ doors to reach as many people as possible and provide tailored crime prevention advice.
The team will be there to answer any questions and provide reassurance.
Road shows will be held in Croft Road Allotments today between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, Collinswood Drive/Filsham Road in St Leonards tomorrow (Saturday), between 2pm and 4pm, Ravine Close/Hoadswood Road, St Leonards, tomorrow between 2.30pm and 4.30pm, Amherst Close on Monday (January 13), from 2pm and 4pm and in Ingelwood Gardens, St Leonards on Thursday (January 16) between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
Inspector Chris Veale, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Lots of people store expensive items in their outbuildings. Unfortunately thieves know this and will seek to target a shed or garage they think is easily accessible.
“We have found that areas with a Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) scheme and/or a residents association are the most effective in helping share information sent by police among neighbours.
“This means that people can act fast to step up their own security and protect their property if need be, because they are informed about what is going on.
“If you would like any information about joining or starting a NHW scheme in your area contact your local Police Community Support Officer.
“Their details can be found on the Sussex Police website, or you can pop into the police station front office in Bohemia Road.” Visit www.sussex.police.uk.
