Hastings Pier has changed its policy on dogs following criticism earlier this year.

It had previously said dogs on leads would only be allowed onto the pier during the off-peak season (September 30 to April 30) in line with beach policy.

However, today (May 31) it said it had amended its policy to allow ‘well-behaved dogs on short leads’ all year round.

“Well-behaved dogs on short leads with responsible owners are welcome to promenade all year round,” said a statement released on behalf of the Hastings Pier Charity.

Dogs are not permitted at events, in buildings or on the Upper Deck.

“Guide and assistance dogs are welcome anytime, anywhere.”

The move is likely to be welcomed by dog lovers who strongly criticised the original policy earlier this year.

A ‘Doggie Flashmob’ was also held on the pier in April to raise awareness of the policy.
