HASTINGS Ore WI had an enjoyable September meeting when we had two speakers to entertain us.
Our first guest was Martin West, one of the Street Pastors in Hastings. Street Pastors are trained volunteers, available on the street at night to help people get home safely, listening to the lonely and offering practical help, especially to the vulnerable.
For many of us we had not realised that they had had a presence in Hastings since February 2010 and it was interesting to hear of the inspiring work that they do.
Our second speaker was David Robins, from Say Cheese of Sussex. He gave an enlightening and amusing talk about different cheeses, telling us their history and describing their differences as well as giving us the opportunity to sample several types.
We were quite surprised that David frequently mentioned Charles Dickens and his references to cheese in his novels. The next meeting of Hastings Ore WI will be on Tuesday, October 8 when will be starting to think of Christmas with cake decorating.
