Hastings artist remembered at Black Huts Festival

Hastings Old Town painter, animateur and astronomical clock maker Roland Jarvis, who died this year, is the subject of a film being shown at the Electric Palace cinema on Thursday evening as part of the Black Huts Festival.

Roland will feature in a short film and there will also be rare screenings of work by talented Hastings film-maker Rebecca E Marshall and madcap visionary Andrew Kotting.

The Black Huts Festival opens tonight (Wednesday) with a rare screening of Oscar winner Kevin Brownlow’s masterpiece Winstanley. This film on the Diggers celebrates his 40th birthday. It portrays Gerrard Winstanley, who founded England’s first commune in 1649.

Hastings resident Andrew Mollo,the co director of Winstanley, will join Brownlow at 8pm for the special opening night.

The Black Huts is a festival of music, writing and film which is now in its fifth year.

Tickets are available from Hastings Tourist Information Centre, Waterstones, in Priory meadow, Cobblers to the Old Town, Music’s not dead in Bexhill, and from the Beacon and the Electric Palace venues on the day. For more information visit www.e-truscan.co.uk.
