THE PROPOSED student village for the Sussex Coast College in Hastings got a bad report at a meeting of Hastings and St Leonards Seniors’ Forum committee.
Aubrey Ingleton, who chairs the planning special interest group, said in his opinion it would be a student ‘tower block’. There was also doubt about its impact on the Greenway.
“I am all in favour of students and I want them to have the best but this is a really bad design scheme,” he told members.
Aubrey, who is also chairman of the health and social care group, reported that 13 more doctors were needed in Hastings and he questioned when the Clinical Commissioning Group was going to provide health and support staff to bring it up to national levels.
On a lighter note Ann Lowndes, who chairs the forum, reported that the Easter coffee morning had been a success, raising £90.
The forum’s quality of life group is planning events such as a Looking Good, Feeling Great Over 50 to be held on May 15 from 10am to 2pm at Christchurch Hall, St Leonards.
The venue for the AGM in October has hit a problem as the forum had hoped to hold it in the council chamber at the Town Hall as in past years but, alas, has been informed that the town hall lift will still be out of action then.
This means that those with mobility problems would have to hear proceedings by video in a ground-floor room – as they did last year.
The committee is considering options before making a decision.
