It looks as if John Sugden has clinched the 2014/15 Club Championship. Sugden has finished with +5, and can now only be caught by Bernard Cafferty on +2, but that requires Cafferty to win all his remaining games.

The second division Pelton Cup though could be anyone’s. Mason Woodhams leads on +4 but has four players snapping at his heels on +3: Adrian Cload, Keith Hossack, Jeremy Hudson and Robert Smart.

The third division Rush Cup looks good for Steve Oakman on +4. Umberto Jozwiak on +3 is close but Oakman has an easier run in.

Club member Jude Lenier represented Oxford University in the RAC Varsity Match earlier this month; unfortunately he lost his own game although the dark blues tied the match 4-4 overall. Nineteen-year-old Lenier is a freshman at Brasenose College studying politics, philosophy and economics (David Cameron’s old college and subject!).

Only one match to report this week: our thirds are 2-2 at Lewes seconds in the Mid-Sussex League with the fifth game awaiting the adjudicator’s verdict. Steve Blewitt and Mason Woodhams won, Marc Bryant and Robert Smart lost, Gary Willson’s game is undecided.
