Hastings and St Leonards Chess Club

Eighteen players turned out for the latest club rapidplay on Bank Holiday Monday.

Rapid play is the fast version of the game, with the typical game here lasting 15-20 minutes against the clock. Patrick Donovan, playing his first competitive games for more than a year, was clear winner, scoring 6½ points from his seven games.

Rasa Norinkeviciute was runner up on 5, pipping Conrado Quintos on tie-break. Category prizes were won by Mason Woodhams on 3½ and by Joe Sharp on 3.

The annual friendly match against Wanstead & Woodford was played last Sunday, with the visitors running out victors by 7½ to 5½. Robert Smart and George Jelliss were our only winners, although there were a lot of drawn games, seven in all, recorded by messrs Willson (Ollie), Elliston, Brooks, Blewitt, Cosens, Lucas and Power. Messrs Quintos, Hossack, Houghton and Oakman failed to trouble the scorers.
