Hastings and St Leonards Chess Club

DISAPPOINTMENT in the club’s last pre-Christmas match, when we were dumped out of the County’s Paul Watson K.O. Trophy by 2½-1½ at home to Haywards Heath.

Bob Elliston had a good win, but Conrado Quintos was lucky to scrape a draw while both Derek Cosens and Mason Woodhams were beaten while going for broke.

Team captain Joe Sharp remarked: “This was a match we should perhaps have won. It was lost through two dubious piece sacrifices and through two attacks being repulsed by stubborn defence.”
